Okay, let me walk you through what I did with this whole ‘shaman Drew McIntyre’ idea I had. It wasn’t anything too complex, just something I messed around with.

Getting the Idea
So, I was watching some wrestling, you know, just flipping channels. Saw Drew McIntyre doing his thing. Big dude, very intense, got that whole Scottish warrior vibe going on. And the word ‘shaman’ just kinda popped into my head. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it’s the intensity, the connection to older warrior archetypes? Anyway, I thought, “Huh, what would that look like? Drew McIntyre as some kind of modern shaman?”
Starting the Sketch
I figured, why not try and draw it? Just a quick sketch. So, I went and found my old sketchbook, the one I use for random ideas. Grabbed a standard pencil, nothing special, and an eraser that’s probably seen better days.
First thing, I needed a reference picture of Drew. Just went online real quick, searched his name. Found a bunch of photos. I looked for one that really showed his face clearly, maybe one of those intense stares he does. Found a decent headshot that worked.
Adding the ‘Shaman’ Elements
Now, how to make him look like a shaman? I didn’t want to go overboard. My thinking was:
- Keep his general look, the beard, the hair. That’s recognizable.
- Maybe add some kind of face paint? Like simple, warrior-style markings.
- Could alter his gear slightly? Make it look less like wrestling trunks and more like something… rougher? Maybe some fur or leather texture?
I decided to go with the face paint idea mainly, and just hint at different gear.
The Drawing Process
I started sketching out the basic head shape and his shoulders. Getting his jawline and the general structure of his face took a few tries. That eraser got some use!
Then I worked on his hair and beard. He’s got a lot of it, so I tried to get the flow and texture without getting bogged down in every single strand. Just suggesting it, really.
Next were the eyes and expression. Tried to capture that intense look from the photo. That’s kinda key for him, right?

Then came the shaman bit. I lightly sketched in some simple, angular patterns on his cheeks and forehead. Like I said, nothing too crazy, just enough to give that different vibe. I also roughed up the lines around his shoulders, trying to make it look less like modern gear and more like, maybe, worn leather or something primitive.
Shading and Finishing Up
Once the lines were mostly down, I did some basic shading. Used the side of the pencil lead to fill in some shadows, under the chin, around the eyes, give it a bit of depth. I even smudged some areas with my finger to blend it a bit. It’s not a fancy technique, but it works for quick sketches.
The Result
So, at the end, I had this drawing. It definitely looked like Drew McIntyre, but with this added layer, this hint of a shaman or ancient warrior through the face paint and the slightly altered gear. It wasn’t a masterpiece, mind you. My drawing skills are just okay. But it was interesting to see the idea on paper. It was just a fun little experiment, blending a modern wrestler with an older concept. Took maybe half an hour, tops. Just me, a pencil, and an idea.
