Okay, so today I decided to tackle this “legendary figure crossword” thing. I’d seen these puzzles floating around, and, well, I’m always up for a good brain teaser. I found one online – didn’t want to go out and buy a whole book just yet.

I started by just staring at it. You know, that initial “where do I even begin?” feeling. It was a pretty big grid, lots of intimidating blank squares. I looked for the shortest clues first, figuring those would be the easiest to crack.
I spotted a three-letter word, “Mythical creature with a single horn.” “Aha!” I thought, “Unicorn!” I filled that in, feeling pretty good about myself. That gave me a starting point, a few letters to work with for the intersecting words.
Then I moved on to a longer clue, something about a “Greek hero known for his strength.” I racked my brain… Hercules? It fit! I wrote that in, and suddenly, a few more squares were filled. It was like a chain reaction, one answer leading to another.
There were a few clues that really stumped me, though. One was about some “Norse god of thunder.” I googled it, I am not ashamed to admit it. Thor, obviously. I use google when I get *’t judge! Some of these legendary figures are from cultures I’m not super familiar with.
Slowly but surely, I chipped away at the puzzle. It took me a good hour, maybe more, with a few breaks to refill my coffee and clear my head. But I persevered!
- Find an easy crossword.
- Solve the simple clues first.
- Fill in the answers and use connected words.
- If you don’t know, you can search for it.
Finally, I filled in that last square. Victory! It’s a surprisingly satisfying feeling, completing a crossword, especially one with a bit of a challenge like this “legendary figure” theme. I might actually buy a whole book of these now. I am getting addicted!
