Okay, so I had this idea to try out “split squad” thing in baseball. I have heard about it a lot, but never really tried it myself. Let me tell you, it was quite an experience.
First, I gathered all my baseball buddies. We had a pretty decent-sized group, so splitting into two squads was actually doable. I divided them as evenly as possible, considering their skills and positions. It was like putting together two mini-teams from our regular one.
- I made sure each squad had a mix of experienced players and some who were not so experienced.
- We flipped a coin to decide which squad would play where since we had booked two fields for the same time.
- Then, each squad headed off to their respective fields.
The games kicked off, and it was pretty intense. I ran between the two fields, trying to watch both games at the same time. It was hectic, but kind of fun in a chaotic way. I wanted to see how each squad was doing, how they were playing together as new units. And I also helped to give some quick coaching tips between innings.
It was interesting to see how some players stepped up in their new roles. Some guys who usually didn’t get much field time got to shine a bit more. I noticed a few of them really taking charge, which was cool to see.
After the games, we all got together to grab some food and talk about it. Everyone had stories to tell, especially about plays they made or how different it felt playing in their split squads. There was a lot of laughing and good-natured ribbing about who won and who struck out.
My Realization
This whole “split squad” experiment was tiring, but it was definitely worth it. It gave everyone a chance to play more and try different positions. Plus, it was a good way to see who might be ready to step up in the future. I’m thinking of doing this again sometime, maybe with a bit more planning next time. It’s a great way to shake things up and keep everyone on their toes!
