Well, let me tell ya, these young golfers, they got their quirks, that’s for sure. This fella, Justin Thomas, he’s a good player, real good. But he’s got somethin’ to say about another fella, Scottie Scheffler. Now, Scottie, he’s been playin’ real well too, shootin’ low scores and winnin’ tournaments.
But Justin, he’s all hung up on somethin’ kinda silly, if ya ask me. He says it’s “weird” that Scottie uses golf balls with high numbers on ’em. High numbers! Can ya believe it? What’s weird about that, I ask ya? A number’s a number, ain’t it? Whether it’s a one or a two or a seven or an eight, it’s still a golf ball. You hit it, it goes in the hole, that’s all that matters.
- Justin, he says he ain’t never seen no “elite player” usin’ high numbers. Well, maybe he ain’t lookin’ hard enough. Or maybe Scottie’s just different. And what’s wrong with bein’ different, I say? Nothin’, that’s what.
- This whole thing happened down in the Bahamas, at some fancy tournament called the Hero World Challenge. Justin, he was playin’ good, real good. He shot a sixty-six on Saturday, passed Scottie, and took the lead. Good for him, I say. But he still had time to complain about Scottie’s golf balls.
Now, they say Scottie uses somethin’ called a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably costs a pretty penny. But the number on it, that don’t make it go further or straighter, does it? It’s the swing, see? It’s the way you hit the ball. That’s what matters. Not the number.
Justin, he went on some TV show and talked about it. Asked if anyone else thought it was weird. Well, I don’t think it’s weird. And I bet most folks don’t either. It’s just a golf ball. Let the man play his game, I say. If he wants to use a ball with a hundred on it, let him. It ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
And speakin’ of golf balls, I heard tell of another fella, Tiger Woods, he likes a certain kind of ball too. Somethin’ called a Bridgestone Tour B X. He says it gives him more distance and control. Well, that’s important, I guess. But I bet he wouldn’t care if it had a high number or a low number. He just wants it to go where he wants it to go. That’s the important thing.
Justin, he’s been playin’ golf since he was a little fella, thanks to his daddy. So he knows a thing or two about the game. But sometimes, I think these young fellas, they overthink things. They worry about too much stuff. Golf ain’t that complicated. You hit the ball, you find the ball, you hit it again. That’s all there is to it.
And this whole thing about Scottie and his high-numbered golf balls, it’s just a distraction. It don’t matter one bit. What matters is who plays the best. Who shoots the lowest score. Who wins the tournament. That’s what people remember. They don’t remember what number was on your golf ball.
So, Justin, you just focus on your own game, son. And let Scottie use whatever golf balls he wants. If he wants to use a ball with a big ol’ eight on it, let him. It ain’t gonna make him a better player or a worse player. It’s just a number. And golf, well, it’s just a game. Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be.
Golf balls, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, these are the things that got people talkin’. But at the end of the day, it’s all about hittin’ that little white ball and gettin’ it in the hole. And that’s somethin’ everybody can understand, no matter what number’s on the ball.
Folks were talkin’ ’bout Scheffler playin’ real good at the RBC Heritage too. And guess what? Still usin’ them high-numbered balls! Seems like it ain’t hurtin’ him none. So, maybe Justin should just hush up about it and focus on his own game.
Anyway, that’s what I think about it. Maybe I’m just an old woman who don’t know nothin’ about fancy golf, but I know common sense when I see it. And this whole thing about Scottie’s golf balls, well, it just ain’t got no sense to it at all.
