Okay, so, let me tell you about this little adventure I had today with a crossword puzzle. I’m a big fan of crosswords, you know? They’re like a nice little workout for your brain. Anyway, the clue I got stuck on was “Pray to.” It’s just a two-word thing, but man, it had me scratching my head!
Here’s How It Went Down
First, I stared at the empty squares, trying to force some answers out of my brain. Nothing. So, I decided to use one of those crossword solver websites. You type in the clue, and it spits out a bunch of possible answers. Pretty handy, right?
I typed in “Pray to,” and the site gave me like 30 different answers! Turns out there are a lot of words related to praying. Who knew?
Then, I started looking at some of the definitions to see if they could lead me to another approach. One of them talked about “striving in opposition” and “contesting.” That got me thinking about synonyms and related words, but still nothing that fit the puzzle.
I went back to the solver and looked at the examples they had. Stuff like “Appeal to rent cycles before lunch?” and “Pray to some in centre — atheists.” These were more like hints, I guess, but they didn’t really help me much.
Feeling a bit defeated, I tried another solver. This one gave me 36 answers! Still, I was stuck. I started thinking about maybe searching by the letters I already had in the puzzle, but then I remembered another thing the first site had mentioned – “orant.” Apparently, it’s a word for a figure in a posture of prayer in Christian art.
It still didn’t give me the answer, but this whole process got me thinking about all the different ways to pray and all the different words associated with it. I even started digging into synonyms like “assemble,” “collect,” “congregate,” and “gather.”
After all this, I still haven’t cracked the clue. But you know what? I learned a bunch of new words and had a fun time digging around. That’s the cool thing about crosswords – even when you’re stuck, you’re still learning something. I will come back to this clue later. Maybe with fresh eyes, I’ll finally get it!
