Oh, well, let me tell ya, the Detroit Tigers sure got themselves a big change this year when it comes to their announcers. Ya see, in 2024, a fella by the name of Jason Benetti took over as the main play-by-play announcer for the Tigers on Bally Sports Detroit. Now, I ain’t one for all these fancy sports names, but this Benetti fella sure seems to know what he’s doin’. Folks around town been talkin’ a lot about him, sayin’ how he’s been callin’ the games with a real nice touch.
Now, before Jason came along, there was Matt Shepard, a name that’s been around for quite a few years. Matt had been the voice of the Tigers on TV from 2019 all the way through 2023. He’d been with Bally Sports Detroit for a good long while. But, you know, times change, and now it’s Jason’s turn to take over. He’s got a lotta praise from the players and other folks in the broadcastin’ world. I hear he’s got a real smooth voice and can make a baseball game sound just as exciting as a big ol’ family reunion on the farm.
As for the rest of the crew, well, they ain’t all new faces. Craig Monroe, he’s stickin’ around as the color commentator. That man knows his baseball, I tell ya. He’s been around the Tigers for a long time and knows just what to say at the right moment. He’ll be helpin’ Jason keep the game talkin’ lively and full of all them little details that make baseball so fun to watch.
The Tigers announcers ain’t just on TV neither. They got folks on the radio too, so if you can’t catch ’em on the screen, you can still listen in. I remember back in the day, you’d be sittin’ out on the porch with the radio blarin’ out the play-by-play of the game. It don’t matter if it’s the 1920s or 2024, a good announcer can make you feel like you’re right there in the stands, even if you’re sittin’ on your front porch drinkin’ sweet tea.
Now, let’s talk a little more about Jason Benetti. He ain’t a stranger to broadcastin’, no sir. Before joinin’ the Tigers, he was workin’ with all sorts of big leagues and teams. He’s got quite the resume, ya know, announcin’ all kinds of sports from football to basketball. So when the Tigers gave him the job, they knew they was pickin’ a real pro. He’s been makin’ a name for himself across the country, and now he’s right here with our Tigers.
Back in 2023, when the Tigers made the announcement that Jason would be takin’ over the play-by-play job, folks was curious. A lotta people been watchin’ Matt Shepard for years, and change is always a little hard to swallow at first. But it looks like Jason’s been doin’ a good job of fillin’ them big shoes. And don’t you worry, the rest of the crew’s still around, so ya ain’t missin’ out on anything. That Craig Monroe, he’ll still be around keepin’ the commentary fun, and the Tigers fans are happy as a lark.
It’s funny though, ain’t it? How the Tigers have had such a change in announcers over the years. I remember back when I was young, the announcers was folks you’d listen to every day and get to know like family. Now, it’s all high-tech and fancy stuff, but the heart of the game’s still the same. Whether it’s Jason Benetti or Matt Shepard or whoever, it’s all about them Tigers and how they play the game.
So, if you haven’t caught a game yet this year, you might want to turn on Bally Sports Detroit and listen to Jason Benetti call the game. With Craig Monroe by his side, they’ll be sure to give you a good ol’ fashioned baseball experience. And, if you’re like me, you might find yourself settin’ back with a nice glass of iced tea, enjoyin’ the show like you’re sittin’ at the ballpark yourself. But don’t take my word for it—go check it out yourself!
