Alright, let’s talk about this Mookie Betts card thing. I don’t know much about these fancy cards, but my grandson, he’s always yappin’ about ’em. Says they’re worth somethin’, these little pieces of cardboard with pictures on ’em. So, I figured, let’s see what all the fuss is about.
First off, this Mookie fella, seems he’s a big deal in baseball. Plays for the Dodgers now, I think. My grandson says he used to play for the Red Sox too. Won a bunch of those World Series things, whatever those are. Sounds important, I guess. Folks are willin’ to pay good money for pictures of him, so he must be doin’ somethin’ right.
Now, about these Topps cards. Seems like Topps is the big name in this card business. They been makin’ these cards for donkey’s years, I reckon. My grandson showed me some, they got all sorts of pictures and numbers on ’em. Some are shiny, some are plain. He says the shiny ones are special, worth more money. Go figure.
- They got these things called “Topps Now” cards. My grandson says they make ’em right after somethin’ exciting happens in a baseball game. Like if Mookie hits a home run or somethin’. They print a card real quick and sell it. Sounds like a hustle to me, but folks buy ’em up, so what do I know?
- Then there’s the regular Topps cards, the ones that come in packs. My grandson says you gotta buy a bunch of packs to find the good ones. It’s like a lottery ticket, he says. You spend your money and hope you get lucky. Sounds like a waste of money to me, but he seems to enjoy it.
- And get this, they even sell these cards online. On somethin’ called eBay. My grandson showed me, prices all over the place. Some cards are a few dollars, some are hundreds, even thousands! Can you believe that? For a piece of cardboard! He says there was one card, some old Mickey Mantle fella, sold for millions of dollars. Millions! That’s more money than I’ll ever see in my life. Crazy, I tell ya, just crazy.
So, this Mookie Betts card, it’s probably worth somethin’, dependin’ on which one it is. If it’s one of them shiny ones, or a special edition, or one of them “Topps Now” cards from a big game, it could be worth a pretty penny. My grandson says Mookie signed a big contract with the Dodgers, worth millions. So, I guess that makes his cards more valuable, somehow. Don’t make no sense to me, but that’s what he says.
If you’re lookin’ to buy or sell these Mookie Betts cards, my grandson says you gotta be careful. There’s folks out there tryin’ to cheat ya, sellin’ fake cards or chargin’ too much. He says you gotta do your research, know what you’re buyin’. Sounds like too much work for me, I’d rather just watch the birds and drink my coffee.
Anyway, that’s about all I know about these Mookie Betts cards. Seems like a whole lot of fuss over nothin’, if you ask me. But then again, I’m just an old woman who don’t know much about baseball or fancy cards. If it makes folks happy, I guess that’s all that matters. Just don’t go spendin’ your life savings on ’em, ya hear? There’s more important things in life than pieces of cardboard, that’s for sure.
And another thing, my grandson mentioned somethin’ about a “2024 Topps Series 1” and Mookie bein’ one of the “Stars of MLB.” I reckon that means he’s got a new card out. Folks are probably goin’ crazy for it, spendin’ their hard-earned cash. Well, good for them, I say. Just as long as they ain’t gamblin’ away their rent money. That’s what I always say, a little bit of fun is alright, but don’t let it ruin ya.
So, there ya have it. My two cents on this Mookie Betts card business. Probably ain’t worth much, comin’ from an old lady like me. But hey, at least I tried to make sense of it all. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some gardenin’ to do. Them tomatoes ain’t gonna grow themselves, ya know.
One more thing before I go. My grandson also said something about Mookie Betts having a net worth of 70 million dollars. That’s a whole lotta money! I can’t even imagine having that much money! And that he signed a 12-year contract with the Dodgers for 390 million dollars! Land sakes! No wonder folks want his picture on a card! He must be good at hitting that little ball with a stick.
And apparently Mookie has won three World Series rings. Three! That’s a lot of winning. I guess that makes him even more special. So if you’ve got a card with him on it, especially one from a World Series, it might be worth something. You might want to keep it safe, or take it to one of them card shops and see what they’ll give you for it. Who knows, you might get lucky!
