Now, CJ, he was just a young’un when all this happened. Too young to really understand, ya know? His mama, bless her heart, she raised them kids right, kept ’em grounded, even with all that heartache. CJ, he talks about his mama a lot, says she’s the reason he’s so strong and steady. And he talks about Jesus too, says his faith helps him through it all.
CJ’s Name and Family
This here CJ, his real name is a mouthful, Coleridge Bernard Stroud the Fourth, named after his daddy and grandpappy and all them before. Folks just call him CJ, easier that way. He’s got a whole bunch of brothers and sisters, too. Big family, even if one of ’em’s missin’.
The Hard Road
It ain’t easy, growin’ up without your daddy around, specially when he’s locked up for somethin’ like that. CJ, he seems like a good boy, worked hard, became a football star. But you can see the hurt in his eyes sometimes, when he talks about it. He says it’s been a “hard road,” and you can believe it. He thanks Jesus for gettin’ him through, says his faith is what keeps him goin’.
