Alright, so fantasy football season rolled around again, like it always does. Draft night was staring me down, and honestly, picking the players is only half the battle. You gotta have a killer team name, right? It sets the tone. This year, I was thinking about basing it around Tom Brady. Love him or hate him, the guy’s a legend, and it gives you a lot to work with.
So, where did I start? First thing, I just kinda sat back and thought about Brady. What comes to mind?
- Super Bowl rings, obviously. Loads of ’em.
- The whole Patriots dynasty thing.
- Then the move to Tampa Bay, winning another one there. Wild.
- Deflategate, can’t forget that drama.
- Him retiring, then un-retiring. Classic.
- Just the fact that he played forever. The longevity.
Brainstorming the Puns
Okay, with those thoughts swirling, I started jotting down some rough ideas. Just word association, really. Trying to make puns. Some were terrible, not gonna lie.
Stuff like:
- Brady Gaga (Too weird?)
- Lord of the Rings (He has a lot of rings…)
- Brady Ante (Like Brady ante-up? Maybe?)
- Something about Tampa Bay Brady?
It wasn’t really clicking yet. My brain felt a bit fried just thinking about my draft picks, let alone a clever name.
Turning to the Internet (Like Everyone Else)
So, naturally, I did what any self-respecting fantasy manager does when stuck: I outsourced my creativity to the internet. Fired up the computer, opened a search engine. Typed in the obvious stuff: “Tom Brady fantasy football names”, “funny Tom Brady team names”, “best TB12 fantasy names”.
Man, you get a LOT of results. Pages and pages of lists from sports sites, blogs, forums. It’s almost too much.
Sifting Through the Noise
I started clicking through. A lot of the same ideas popped up everywhere. Tons of variations on “The Brady Bunch”. A whole bunch riffing on “Lord of the Rings” again – “Lord of the Lombardis,” that kind of thing. Some played on his age, like “Brady Old Man” or “Grumpy Old Men,” but eh, felt a bit disrespectful maybe?
Saw some related to his teammates too, like involving Gronk. “Brady & Gronky,” stuff like that. Okay, getting warmer.
There were definitely some clever ones mixed in with the duds. Things playing on song titles or movie names seemed popular. I specifically looked for ones that felt a bit unique, not just the first pun that comes to mind.
Landing on Some Contenders
After maybe 20 minutes of scrolling and clicking, I had a decent short list. Filtered out the ones that were too common or just didn’t land for me. I wanted something that other people in my league would get a chuckle out of, or at least nod and say, “Yeah, that’s pretty good.”
Here’s kind of what I ended up liking:
- Brady Gaga (Actually grew on me, it’s so dumb it’s funny)
- My Fair Brady
- The Real Slim Brady
- Dude Looks Like A Brady (Aerosmith vibes, not bad)
- Brady Antebellum (Maybe a bit dated now?)
- Kiss the Rings (Simple, direct, fits the GOAT)
So yeah, that was basically my process. Started with some basic thoughts about Brady, tried my own bad puns, then dove into the internet rabbit hole, filtered out the noise, and ended up with a few solid options. Now the hard part is actually picking one before the season starts. Might just go with Kiss the Rings, feels right.
