My little experiment with the Jayce Griffin stuff
Okay, so I kept hearing this name, Jayce Griffin, popping up here and there. Sounded like some kind of new hotshot method or style people were trying out, maybe for design work, maybe something else, wasn’t totally clear. Decided I should probably check it out myself, you know, see what the fuss was about.

First thing, tried to find some solid info. Man, that was tougher than I thought. Not a lot of clear guides or anything. Mostly just forum chatter and vague mentions. Found a couple of blurry screenshots that supposedly showed the ‘Griffin technique’ in action. Didn’t help much. Felt like I was chasing smoke for a while.
So, I just decided to wing it based on the scraps I found. Fired up my usual software, grabbed a sample project I had lying around. Tried to imitate the look and feel from those blurry images. My first few attempts? Absolute garbage. Looked nothing like what I imagined. Wasted a good couple of hours just pushing pixels around, getting nowhere.
Here’s kinda what I went through:
- Tried approach one, based on a comment I read. Failed.
- Tried approach two, mimicking a screenshot. Also failed, looked weird.
- Took a break, grabbed some coffee. Stared at the screen.
- Tried combining bits from both approaches. Started to look… slightly less terrible.
It was frustrating, honestly. You hear about these things, think it’s gonna be some revelation, and then you’re stuck trying to figure out the basics because nobody wrote a proper ‘how-to’. Maybe that’s the point? Maybe it’s supposed to be intuitive? Well, it wasn’t intuitive for me.
After messing around for another day, off and on, I finally got something that kinda resembled the ‘Jayce Griffin style’, or at least my interpretation of it. It involved some specific layering and blending tricks I hadn’t used much before. Had to really force myself to think differently about the workflow.
So, what’s the verdict?
Well, I got there. Sort of. The final result looked okay, I guess. Different from my usual stuff. Is it revolutionary? Nah, I don’t think so. Just another tool in the toolbox, maybe useful for certain specific effects or vibes. Took way more effort to figure out than it should have, though. Probably won’t be my go-to method, but hey, at least now I know what it is when people mention ‘Jayce Griffin’. Practice done, moving on.
