Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really get into watching tennis matches more closely, and today I decided to dive into the Holger Rune vs. Miomir Kecmanovic match. I didn’t really have a plan, just figured I’d watch and see what I could pick up.

First thing I did was find a stream. That took a little bit of searching, had to click through a few dodgy sites, but eventually found one that worked okay. It wasn’t perfect, kept buffering a bit, but hey, it was free!
Watching the Match
Once I got the stream going, I just sat back and watched. I didn’t have any real knowledge of either player, so the first set was all about getting a feel for their styles. I made some very rough notes, literally just scribbling on a scrap of paper, like:
- Rune – seems aggressive, big forehand?
- Kecmanovic – more steady, good backhand maybe?
Pretty basic, I know! I was mainly trying to figure out who was who and what their general game plan seemed to be.
As the match went on, I started to notice a few more things. Like, Rune seemed to get frustrated pretty easily, slamming his racket a couple of times. Kecmanovic seemed much calmer, didn’t show much emotion. I jotted that down too, because it felt like it might be important to how the match played out.
I tried to pay attention to the score, obviously, but I was more interested in how they were winning points. Was it big serves? Long rallies? Errors? I didn’t keep stats or anything, but I tried to get a general sense of it.
The Result (and What I Learned)
In the end, Rune won. It was a pretty close match, went to a tiebreak in the final set. Honestly, I was kind of surprised, because Kecmanovic seemed so solid. But Rune’s aggressive style, even with the frustrations, seemed to pay off in the big moments.
My main takeaway? Watching a match with even a little bit of focus is way more interesting than just having it on in the background. I still have a ton to learn, but I feel like I actually watched this match, instead of just seeing it. Next time, I might try to focus on something specific, like their serve placement or how they approach break points. Baby steps!
