Alright, let’s talk about getting through the June Monthly Awards program in MLB The Show 23. Saw it pop up, knew it was another time sink, but hey, sometimes you get some decent cards out of these things.

First Look and Moments
First thing I did, jumped in to see who the big reward was. Looked alright. Then scrolled through the missions and moments. You know how it is. Always start with the moments, try and knock those out quickly.
Some were pretty straightforward. Get a couple hits, pitch an inning or two. Easy peasy. But there’s always one or two that make you wanna throw your controller, right? Think there was one multi-game moment, maybe rack up 8 hits or something? Took me like three tries. The CPU pitcher suddenly turns into Cy Young when you need one more single. Frustrating stuff.
The Stat Grind Begins
Okay, moments finally done. Next up: the stat missions. This is where the real grind kicks in. Gathered up all the June program players I’d unlocked so far.
- Threw ’em all into a lineup.
- Jumped into some games against the CPU. Played on Rookie, yeah I know, but I just wanted to get the stats done fast. Conquest works too, kill two birds with one stone.
- Focused on whatever the mission needed. Needed homers? Swung for the fences every time. Needed strikeouts? Just dotted the corners, CPU usually chases eventually.
Took a few hours, spread it out over a couple nights. Put on a podcast, zoned out, just went through the motions. Gotta rack up that PXP too, don’t forget that part. It all adds up.
Collections and the Final Push
As I finished the missions and unlocked more players, I made sure to go back to the program screen and collect them. You gotta do that step by step, otherwise, you get to the end and wonder why you haven’t got the main guy yet. Learned that lesson the hard way before.
Finally got all the lower-tier guys collected, all the missions checked off. The progress bar hit 100%. Boom. Unlocked the main June lightning player.
Was it Worth It?
So, got the card. Slotted him into my main squad to try him out. He’s decent, yeah. Will he stay on the team long? Who knows. These things change fast.
Sometimes I sit back after finishing one of these programs and think, “Man, that was a lot of hours for one card.” My buddy even jokes about it, says I spend more time “working” in this game than my actual job. Maybe he’s got a point. But you know what? It’s kinda satisfying to complete it. Checking off the boxes, getting the reward. It’s a little sense of accomplishment, even if it’s just pixels. Plus, you feel like you’re keeping up, got the latest shiny toy to play with online for a bit. Until the next program drops, anyway. Then we do it all over again. Crazy, right?
