So, I decided I needed a proper hat, you know? Something classic. Been seeing those New Yorker style hats everywhere, the baseball caps, usually the navy blue ones. Figured it was time I got one for myself.

Finding the Right One
First, I poked around online a bit. Saw a ton of options, different fits, snapbacks, fitted, adjustable. Even different colors, but I really wanted that classic navy blue look. You see it everywhere in the city, or at least, pictures of the city.
Looking online is one thing, but for a hat, I gotta try it on. So, I went down to a local shop that sells sports gear. They had a whole wall of caps. Found the section with the NY logo.
- Looked at the fitted ones first – those need the exact size.
- Checked out the adjustable ones – easier fit, but sometimes look a bit off on me.
- Considered the material – wanted something sturdy that would last.
Spent a good few minutes trying different sizes for the fitted style. Found one that felt just right, snug but not too tight. You know that feeling when it just sits perfectly? Yeah, that was it.
Getting it and Breaking it In
So I grabbed the navy blue fitted cap. Took it to the counter, paid the man. Pretty straightforward process, really. Nothing fancy about buying a hat.
Got it home. Looked it over. Good quality stitching, nice deep navy color. The white NY logo really pops. It felt a bit stiff, like most new hats do. The brim was super flat, which isn’t really my style.
So, the first thing I did was start working on the brim. Gently curved it with my hands, bit by bit. Didn’t want to crease it hard, just give it that nice, natural curve. Takes a bit of time, you gotta wear it, shape it, wear it some more.
Been wearing it around quite a bit now. Out for walks, doing chores. It’s getting softer, molding to my head better. Feels like a proper, worn-in hat now, not something straight off the shelf. Yeah, pretty happy with this simple project. Just getting a good, solid hat. Job done.
