So, I decided to head out to the Michigan spring game for 2024. It’s become sort of a yearly ritual for me, a good way to get a first look at the team and just enjoy a day out at the Big House without the usual craziness of a fall Saturday.

Getting Ready and Heading Out
Didn’t need to do much prep, honestly. Spring games are usually pretty relaxed. Checked the time it started, figured I’d leave a bit early to avoid any unexpected traffic, though it’s never as bad as a regular season game. Parking is always a bit of a walk, but that’s part of the experience, right? Found a decent spot, not too far off. The weather was okay, typical Michigan spring – could be sunny one minute, chilly the next. Grabbed a jacket just in case.
Inside The Big House
Walking towards the stadium, you could feel a bit of a buzz. Not the electric feel of a Penn State night game, obviously, but people were happy to be there. Lots of families, lots of familiar maize and blue.
Getting in was easy, no long lines. Found a seat pretty easily too, lower bowl. It’s nice being able to just pick a spot sometimes. The crowd size looked pretty good. I heard some numbers later, seemed like a solid turnout. People seemed excited to see the team after the championship run, even if it’s just a practice.
What I saw on the field:
- The guys looked like they were working hard. It’s tough to judge much from a spring game, really.
- Saw some new faces getting reps, which is always interesting.
- Offense and defense went back and forth. Some good plays, some sloppy ones, which is normal for spring.
- Mostly, it just felt good to be back watching football in that stadium.
Wrapping Up the Day
Stayed for most of it. Didn’t feel the need to see every last snap. It’s more about the atmosphere and just soaking it in. Grabbed a quick bite on the way out. The walk back to the car was pleasant, lots of people chatting about what they saw.
Overall, it was a good day out. Nothing earth-shattering, but that’s not what the spring game is for. It’s a low-key way to connect with the team and the place again before the summer break. Definitely felt like a worthwhile trip, just enjoying some Michigan football on a spring afternoon. Felt familiar, felt right.
