Okay, so I saw Chris Kirk playing really solid golf recently. You watch a guy hitting it pure, especially under pressure, and you can’t help but wonder, right? What’s he got in that bag?

It wasn’t like some official mission, more like a nagging thought. You’re sitting there, maybe having a beer, watching the highlights, and you think, “Man, that fairway wood looked smooth,” or “What putter is that? He’s rolling everything in.”
So, I started poking around a bit. It’s not like the old days where you had to guess or wait for a magazine. Now, information is everywhere, maybe too much sometimes. I spent a bit of time just looking through pictures from the tournament, trying to zoom in on clubheads and shafts. You squint, you guess, you compare it to stuff you’ve seen before.
My Little Investigation
Here’s what I kinda pieced together, just from looking and reading bits here and there:
- Driver Stuff: Seemed like he was using one of those Callaway drivers. The Paradym model, I think? Looks pretty sleek. I remember hitting a buddy’s Paradym once. Felt okay, but you know, it’s different for everyone.
- Fairway Woods: Definitely saw a couple of fairway woods in there. Looked like the same Callaway line, probably a 3-wood and maybe a 5-wood. He hit some great shots with those.
- Irons: This was tougher to see clearly. Looked like Callaway again, maybe the Apex line? They have a few versions. Could be the Pro or the TCB model. Hard to tell without holding them, really.
- Wedges: Usually guys have a mix here. Looked like Vokeys, maybe? Lots of pros use those. You see that ‘BV’ wing pretty often. Seemed like he had three or four wedges for different yardages.
- Putter: The money maker! Looked like an Odyssey putter. One of those mallet types, maybe the Versa? He was putting the lights out, so whatever it was, it was working for him that week.
It’s funny, though. You go through all this effort to figure out what a pro uses, and then you look at your own bag. My clubs are… well, they’ve seen better days. Got a driver I bought used, irons that are probably five generations old, and a putter I found in my dad’s garage.
Does knowing Kirk uses a certain club make me want to run out and buy it? Not really. I learned a long time ago that it’s mostly the Indian, not the arrow. My swing isn’t his swing, my game isn’t his game. Trying to copy his bag wouldn’t magically make me shoot lower scores. Probably just make my wallet lighter.
But still, it’s interesting, isn’t it? Seeing what tools the best players trust when everything’s on the line. It’s part of the fun of following the game. You appreciate the skill, and you get a little peek behind the curtain at the equipment they use to execute those amazing shots. It just gets you thinking about your own gear, maybe motivates you to hit the range a bit more. That’s about it, really. Just me satisfying some curiosity.
