Okay, let’s talk about being a head coach for the Texans. You know, I got this gig on January 31st, 2023, making me the sixth head coach in the team’s history.
Starting Out
When I first got here, I knew I had to roll up my sleeves and get to work. They handed me a six-year contract, with a total of $28 million. Not too shabby, right? But it’s not just about the money; it’s about building something great here in Houston. I spent a lot of time getting to know the players, the staff, and the whole organization. It was a whirlwind of meetings, practices, and just trying to get a feel for the place.
Diving In
We hit the ground running. I mean, the offseason is short, and there’s so much to do. We dove into the playbook, figured out our strategies, and started shaping the team. There were long days and even longer nights. I remember spending hours watching game film, trying to figure out how we could improve. We had our ups and downs, that’s for sure. I pushed the players hard, but they responded well. We built a strong bond, and that’s what it’s all about.
Game Time
- Then came the games. Man, the energy during those games is something else. You can feel it in your bones. We had some tough matches. But we also had some amazing wins. Each game taught us something new, win or lose.
- The fans were incredible. Cheering us on, no matter what. That kind of support makes a huge difference. I remember one game, we were down, but the crowd’s energy lifted us up. We ended up making a comeback. Those moments are unforgettable.
Looking Ahead
Now, I am entering my second season here, and I’m just as excited as I was on day one. We’ve got a solid foundation, and we’re only getting stronger. I’ve learned so much in this first year—about the game, about leading a team, and about myself. It’s been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
There were rumors flying around about Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns. I heard some chatter about him potentially finalizing an extension to stay in Austin. It’s interesting to see how other coaches are making moves. And then there’s the whole Dallas Cowboys thing. The offseason is just starting for them, so who knows what will happen there.
But for me, it’s all about the Texans. I am fully committed to this team and this city. We have big goals, and I’m determined to see them through. It’s not going to be easy, but nothing worth having ever is. We’re going to keep pushing, keep grinding, and keep getting better. And I’ll be right there, leading the way. You will find me sharing every step of this journey. It’s going to be one heck of a ride.
