Alright, let’s talk about tracking down those submarine pitchers in MLB The Show 23. It wasn’t exactly straightforward, but I eventually figured out how to find ’em.

Why I even started looking
Honestly, I got a bit tired of seeing the same over-the-top and three-quarter arm slots all the time. Every pitcher started to feel the same after a while, you know? I remembered watching some games back in the day and seeing those really low, funky deliveries. Guys practically scraping their knuckles on the mound. I thought it would be cool to find some of those pitchers in the game, maybe add a different look to my Diamond Dynasty squad or just mess around in Franchise mode. Something to throw opponents off balance.
My first attempts weren’t great
So, the first thing I did was just randomly clicking through team rosters. Man, that took forever. Go to a team, click a pitcher, check their motion preview, nope, not a submariner. Next guy. Nope. Did that for like, three or four teams and just got bored and frustrated. It’s not like their player card screams “SUBMARINE PITCHER HERE!”
Then I thought, maybe the Free Agents list? Same problem. Just a huge list of names. You can’t easily tell the pitching style without going into each player’s details or motion preview. Wasted a good chunk of time just clicking around aimlessly there too.
Figuring out a better way
Okay, clicking randomly wasn’t working. I started thinking smarter. Where can I filter stuff? The Community Market! That place can be a jungle, but it has search filters. I started messing around with the filters there. I don’t remember exactly what filter worked best, maybe there was something for arm slot or pitching style? I think I tried filtering by lower arm slots specifically. It was a lot of trial and error, playing with the search options.
I also started thinking about real baseball. Some teams historically or currently have more unconventional players, right? So I focused my roster browsing on teams maybe like the Rays, Giants, or others known for unique pitching strategies sometimes. That narrowed things down a bit compared to checking every single team.
Finding the Submariners
Eventually, I started getting hits. I found you gotta look closely at the pitcher’s details or their motion preview if available. Sometimes their listed pitching style might say something like “Submarine” or just have a really, really low number for the arm slot description. I started spotting a few, mostly relief pitchers.
- Found a couple of bronze guys first.
- Then managed to track down a silver reliever with that low delivery.
- Pretty sure I saw a gold one too eventually, hiding in some team’s bullpen.
Once I got them into practice mode or a game, the motion was obvious. That ball comes out from way down low, totally different look.
Actually using them in games
Pitching with them is definitely… interesting. It works! That low angle, especially on breaking balls like sliders, really messes with hitters’ timing, particularly same-sided hitters (righty sub vs righty batter). It’s not always easy, though. I felt like the control was sometimes a bit harder to nail down compared to standard pitchers. Gotta be precise with the input. But it was super satisfying seeing batters swing awkwardly or just freeze up on pitches coming from that weird slot. Definitely added a fun challenge and a different strategic element when playing online or against the CPU.

So, the takeaway…
Finding submarine pitchers in MLB The Show 23 takes a bit more effort than finding regular guys. You can’t just casually browse. You gotta actively hunt for them using filters, maybe check the Community Market search options really carefully, or target specific teams when looking through rosters. They don’t just jump out at you. But they are in there, and if you want to mix up your pitching and give hitters a different look, it’s worth the search. Adds a nice little bit of variety to the game.
