Okay, so folks were talking about Texas State football, and honestly, I wasn’t really following them closely before. Heard some noise, maybe they won a game they shouldn’t have, or something like that. Got me curious.

Getting Started
First thing I did, I just looked up their schedule. Plain and simple. Wanted to know who they were playing and when. Didn’t want to dive headfirst into stats or history yet, just the basics. Where are they playing? Who’s next?
Then, I spent a bit of time watching some game highlights from the past few weeks. You know, the short clips online. Just to get a feel for how they played. Were they chucking the ball around? Running it down people’s throats? It gave me a quick picture without needing to sit for three hours straight away.
Watching the Games
After that, I decided to actually watch a full game. Found it on TV one Saturday. Made sure I had some snacks ready, settled in. Took a bit to get into the flow, figure out who was who. Started noticing player numbers, hearing the commentators mention the same names over and over. That helped connect the dots.
- Tried to pay attention to the quarterback, see how he handled things.
- Watched the defense, see if they were getting pushed around or holding strong.
- Listened to the crowd noise through the TV, tried to imagine being there.
Did this for a couple more games over the next few weeks. It started to become a bit of a routine. Check the schedule, make time for the game if I could.
Maybe Going to a Game (The Real Deal)
Eventually, I thought, why not? Decided to actually go to a home game. Getting there was the first step, figuring out parking, you know how that goes. It’s always a bit of a walk.
Being there was different. Way different than TV. The noise is real, you feel the crowd react to big plays, the hits sound louder. You see the whole field, not just where the camera points. Walked around a bit before kickoff, saw the tailgating, the band marching in. It’s a whole vibe, really.
What I Noticed
Sitting there, watching them live, you notice different stuff. Little things, like how players interact on the sidelines, how the coaches pace back and forth. You get a better sense of the game’s speed.
I started forming my own opinions, probably wrong half the time, but still. Felt like sometimes they played great, really clicked. Other times, frustrating mistakes, you know, the usual ups and downs of watching sports. It wasn’t always pretty, but it was usually interesting.

So Now What?
So yeah, that was my process. Started from zero, just curious. Looked up the schedule, watched highlights, then full games, even made it out to the stadium. Now I feel like I actually follow Texas State football. Not an expert, definitely not. But I know the team, I watch the games when I can, and I actually care a little bit if they win or lose. It’s become part of my fall routine now. Simple as that, really. Just decided to check it out and stuck with it for a bit.
