Well, let me tell ya, things in that wrestling world, the WWE, they’re always changin’, just like the weather. One minute it’s sunny, the next it’s pourin’ rain, and folks are gettin’ the boot. Heard tell they let a whole bunch of ’em go, yeah, released, that’s what they call it. Like lettin’ chickens out of the coop, only these chickens ain’t goin’ to a better place, I reckon.
Started on a Friday, it did. Don’t rightly know which Friday, but it was a Friday. They got a whole list of names, longer than my grocery list, I swear. Some fellas, some gals, all gone. Poof! Just like that. Heard tell of some names I kinda recognized, even an old lady like me hears things, ya know? Emma, Riddick Moss, Rick Boogs, Aliyah… yeah, those were the names they were shoutin’ about down at the diner.
- Emma
- Riddick Moss
- Rick Boogs
- Aliyah
- And a whole bunch more, they said. Couldn’t keep track, too many names for my old brain.
Now, they say it’s ’cause of some big company deal, somethin’ about sellin’ and mergin’. Endeavor somethin’ or other, and UFC, they’re in it too. Sounds like a whole lotta fancy talk to me. Just means folks losin’ their jobs, that’s what it means. Like when they closed down the mill, all those good folks out on the street. Same thing, just with more spandex and fake punches.
They say this ain’t the end of it, neither. More folks gonna get the axe, especially them youngsters down in NXT. That’s like the minor leagues, ya see? Trainin’ ground for the big shows. But if they ain’t got no room up top, well, them young’uns are just gonna get tossed aside like yesterday’s newspaper.
One fella, Corbin, he went and talked about it on that internet thingamajig. Said, “That’s all she wrote folks.” Guess he’s done with wrestlin’, for now anyways. And that Hartwell girl, she made a whole video about it. Said it was a “weird week of different feelings and emotions.” Well, I reckon it would be. Losin’ your job ain’t no picnic, no matter how much glitter you wear.
They keepin’ a list, ya know? Of all the folks they let go. Organized it all nice and neat, by when they got the boot. Chronological order, they call it. Sounds fancy, but it just means they’re keepin’ track of who’s out and who’s maybe still got a job. It’s a cruel business, this wrestlin’ thing. One day you’re on top, the next you’re nobody. Makes you think, don’t it? All that fightin’ and sweatin’, and for what? A pat on the back and then a kick out the door.
Heard tell some of them wrestlers, they were surprised. Didn’t see it comin’. Well, life’s like that sometimes, ain’t it? One minute you’re thinkin’ you got it all figured out, the next you’re pickin’ up the pieces. Just gotta dust yourself off and keep on movin’, that’s what I always say. Find somethin’ new to do, somethin’ better maybe. Though I can’t imagine what else these folks are gonna do, all they know is wrestlin’, seems like. Maybe they can come work on my farm, we always need extra hands during harvest season.
Anyway, that’s the story, as best as I can tell it. Lots of wrestlers gone, more to go probably. Just the way things are, I guess. Big business, they call it. But to me, it just sounds like a whole lotta heartbreak and folks lookin’ for work. Makes you appreciate what you got, that’s for sure.
WWE is a tough business. You gotta be strong to survive. And even then, sometimes it ain’t enough. It makes you appreciate the simple things in life, like a good cup of coffee and a warm biscuit. Makes you appreciate having a job, even if it ain’t glamorous. And it makes you appreciate your family and friends, because they’re the ones who’ll be there for you when the wrestling world kicks you to the curb. So, here’s hoping those wrestlers find their feet and land on ’em good and strong.
