Alright, alright, let me tell ya somethin’ about these young tennis folks, Katie somethin’ and Jack somebody. Don’t rightly remember their full names, too many syllables for this old woman’s brain, ya know? But I heard some things on the radio, while I was doin’ my chores, and the young’uns told me some stuff too.
Katie, that gal, she’s a Brit, plays tennis somethin’ fierce. Real strong, they say. Like a bull in a china shop, but in a good way, you get me? She hits that ball hard, real hard. They say she’s a “rising star”. Guess that means she’s gettin’ good, real good. She beat some French gal, Clara somethin’, in some big tournament, Wimbledon, they called it. Won two sets, 7-5 and 6-3, the radio fella said. Good for her, I say. Show ’em what you got, girl!
Now, this Katie, she’s got herself a fella, another tennis player. An Aussie, that means from Australia, ya know, down under. Alex something-or-other his name is. They call ’em a “power couple”, those city folks with their fancy words. Means they’re both good at tennis, I reckon. Katie, she says this Alex fella is the one for her. Knew it right away, she did. Young love, it’s a powerful thing, like a good cup of tea on a cold mornin’ – warms ya right up.
- They support each other, the radio said.
- That’s good, I think. A fella and a gal should stick together, help each other out.
- Like me and my old man, rest his soul.
We always had each other’s backs, even when times were tough.
Then there’s this Jack fella. He’s American. He plays tennis too, or he used to. Just retired, the radio said. Made a whole heap of money playin’ tennis, millions they said. Can you imagine? Millions! Enough to buy a whole lotta chickens, that’s for sure. He won some big prizes, gold medals and such. Played doubles, which means two people on a team, you know, like dancin’ but with rackets. He’s playin’ one last time in somethin’ called the U.S. Open, with another fella who’s also quittin’. Good for them, I say. Time to rest their old bones, just like me.
This Jack fella, he got himself hitched too. Married a beauty queen, Miss North Carolina. Fancy that! A tennis player and a beauty queen. Sounds like a story from one of them picture shows. They got married a few years back, in 2020. Seems like yesterday, time flies when you’re gettin’ old, let me tell ya.
Now, this Jack, he’s movin’ on to somethin’ new, a different kinda racket game, somethin’ called PPA Tour. Pickleball, I think they said. Don’t know what that is, sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a jar at the store. But he’s doin’ alright, playin’ with a gal named Anna. Good for him, keepin’ busy. Gotta keep movin’, gotta keep doin’ somethin’ or you’ll just wither up like an old apple.
So that’s the story as I heard it. Katie Boulter playin’ her heart out, findin’ love with her Aussie fella. And Jack Sock, retirin’ from tennis, but not from life, movin’ on to somethin’ new with his beauty queen wife. Life’s funny that way, ain’t it? Always changin’, always movin’. Just like the weather, sometimes sunshine, sometimes rain. Gotta take it all in stride, ya know? Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, like I always say.
Tennis, it’s a funny game. Hit a ball back and forth, runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off. But these young folks, they seem to like it. And they’re good at it too. Makes ya proud, in a way, seein’ them do so well. Even if I don’t understand half the words they use. Power couple, PPA Tour, what’s next? They’ll be speakin’ a whole different language soon enough.
Anyways, that’s all I know. Just a bunch of stories about young folks playin’ tennis and livin’ their lives. Hope it made some sense to ya. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens. They’re squawkin’ up a storm, hungry little things they are.
