Alright, listen up, y’all. We’re gonna talk about them Lakers, the 1984 Lakers, you know, the basketball fellas. Don’t go getting all fancy on me with them big words, I’m just gonna tell it like it is.
So, back in ’84, them Lakers, they were somethin’ else. Real good, I tell ya. They had this fella, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Big fella, real tall, like a beanpole but strong as an ox. He was scorin’ all the points, breakin’ records and whatnot. Folks said he was the best, and I ain’t gonna argue with that. He was old then, but still could play like a young’un.
And then there was this Magic fella, Magic Johnson. Now, he was a different story. He wasn’t just scorin’ points, no sir. He was passin’ that ball around like it was hot potato. Thirteen assists a game, they said. That’s a lot, even for someone who don’t know nothin’ ’bout basketball like me. He was the one runnin’ the show, makin’ sure everyone got their chance to shine. He made everyone around him better, you hear?
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – The big man, scored a lot.
- Magic Johnson – The fancy passer, ran the team.
Now, I can’t tell ya the names of all them other fellas, but they was a good bunch. They worked together, like a well-oiled machine, my grandson told me that once. You know, like when you’re makin’ a quilt and everyone does their part. They won 54 games that year, which sounds like a whole heap to me. Must’ve been playin’ near every day!
They had this coach too. Can’t remember his name, but he was a smart one. He figured out how to make them fellas play their best. Told ’em where to go, what to do. Like a farmer tellin’ his chickens where to lay their eggs, I guess. He put the right players on the court together and made sure they were ready to play. That’s important, you know. Gotta have a good leader.
The Lakers of ’84, they started somethin’ special. They won a lot, and they made folks happy. They were a team, a real team. Not like these young whippersnappers today, always showboatin’ and whatnot. These fellas played hard and they played together. They respected the game and they respected each other. That’s how you win, you know?
Folks still talk about them ’84 Lakers, even now. They say they were one of the best teams ever. And I reckon they were right. They had the talent, they had the teamwork, and they had the heart. That’s what it takes, you know. Heart. You gotta want it bad enough. And them Lakers, they wanted it bad.
I heard they went on to have a bunch of good years after ’84 too. Kept on winnin’ and makin’ a name for themselves. But that ’84 team, they were the start of it all. They set the stage, laid the foundation, whatever you wanna call it. They were a great team and they did it playing the right way!
So, that’s the story of the 1984 Lakers, as best as I can tell it. Just a bunch of fellas playin’ basketball, but playin’ it real good. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it? Win or lose, playin’ hard and playin’ together. That’s the lesson to learn from those 1984 Lakers.
They were a team to remember, that’s for sure. And that Kareem fella and that Magic fella, they were somethin’ special. The whole team was special. And that’s all I gotta say ’bout that.
