Okay, so I’ve been following UFC for a while now, and the Paddy Pimblett vs. Tony Ferguson fight at UFC 296 was one I was really looking forward to. I mean, Ferguson, the legendary scrapper, against Pimblett, the rising star from Liverpool – it had all the makings of a classic.
So, I got all set up to watch it on December 16th. Snacks, drinks, the whole shebang. I was pumped. The atmosphere was electric, even through the screen. I remember thinking, “This is gonna be good.”
When the fight started, it was intense right from the get-go. They both went at it, throwing punches, trying to get the upper hand. Pimblett almost got Ferguson early on, I jumped up from my couch at this point. I truly thought that is it, Ferguson is done for.
But Ferguson, man, he’s tough. He weathered the storm. But here’s the thing, Pimblett’s grappling was just on another level. He dominated those exchanges, and honestly, it was clear he was in control for most of the fight. Ferguson had his moments, sure, he landed some good shots, but it wasn’t enough.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. My heart was pounding. I was yelling at the screen, giving them both imaginary advice. Each round was a roller coaster. Every time Ferguson landed something, I thought, “Maybe he’s got this.” But then Pimblett would take him down, and it was back to square one.
In the end, it went the distance, all three rounds, and it went to the judges. I had a feeling which way it was going to go. And yup, they called it – a unanimous decision for Pimblett. It made sense, he was the better fighter that night, no doubt about it. It was an absolute suffocating victory.
Ferguson though, he looked better than he did in his recent matches, so there’s that. But yeah, he was definitely outmatched.
Here’s what I took away from it:
- Pimblett’s grappling is no joke. He’s legit.
- Ferguson’s still got heart, but he’s not the fighter he once was.
- UFC 296 lived up to the hype, at least for this fight.
What I learned
After the fight, I sat there for a while, just processing it all. It was a great fight, a bit of a sad one for Ferguson fans like me, but a big win for Pimblett. I even went online to see what everyone else was saying about it. Classic post-fight analysis, you know? And then I thought, maybe I should write about this. Share my experience. So here I am, typing this all out.
I heard later on Ferguson’s going to fight Michael Chiesa at UFC on ABC 7. Man, I don’t know about that one. I heard he lost the fight though, which is not surprising.
Anyway, that’s my story of the Pimblett vs. Ferguson fight. It was a wild ride, and I’m glad I got to see it.
