Saw the news feed this morning while having my coffee. Just scrolling through, you know, the usual stuff.

Then I saw that headline, something like Magic Johnson congratulates Darvin Ham on landing with the Bucks. It kinda caught my eye.
Made me pause and think for a bit. It’s interesting how these high-profile worlds work, like sports coaching. Seeing Magic, a huge legend, publicly give a shout-out to Ham for getting that assistant coach job with the Bucks.
My Thoughts & Process
It got me thinking about connections. Not in a bad way, just how relationships and people knowing people can play a role. Ham worked under Budenholzer before, now he’s back with him at the Bucks, seems logical. But having someone like Magic acknowledge it publicly, that adds a certain weight, doesn’t it?
It reminded me of something totally different, actually. Years ago, when I was trying to get my foot in the door at that old workshop place. I remember old Mr. Henderson, who barely knew me but knew my uncle, put in a good word. Wasn’t anything formal, just him telling the foreman I was ‘alright’. That little nod probably helped more than I realized back then.
So, seeing the Magic/Ham thing made me reflect on that. How sometimes a simple endorsement or acknowledgment from someone respected can make a difference, or at least feel good.
- Step 1: Saw the news item.
- Step 2: Reflected on the public acknowledgment aspect.
- Step 3: Drew a parallel to a personal past experience (Mr. Henderson).
- Step 4: Considered the value of acknowledgments and connections.
It also made me think about giving credit. Magic didn’t have to say anything, but he did. It’s a classy move. Shows support. Maybe I should be more conscious of doing that myself, you know? Acknowledging people’s steps or successes, even small ones.
So, I guess my ‘practice’ today, sparked by this basketball news, was just taking a moment to reflect on the power of a good word and the importance of recognizing others. Didn’t really do anything major, just processed it and made a mental note to be more mindful of giving props when they’re due. It’s easy to just move on to the next thing, but maybe taking that extra second to acknowledge someone matters.
Funny how a random sports headline can trigger these kinds of thoughts. Just part of the daily grind, I suppose. Processing little bits of info and seeing where the mind goes.
